Concours d'art oratoire- Event Volunteers
Canadian Parents for French is seeking experienced, dynamic, and entrepreneurial individuals to volunteer at our
CONCOURS D’ART ORATOIRE
(SFU Surrey - Early May)
Canadian Parents for French is a nationwide, research-informed, volunteer organization that represents 25,000 members across Canada. We are located across the country with 10 Branches and offices, and 135+ local community Chapters. We believe the ability to communicate in more than one language fosters creative, empathetic, and adaptive people who access far-reaching opportunities and enhance the social and economic prosperity of our country. Canada has an enviable capacity to ensure that upcoming generations develop this ability in both official languages. We work to ensure that all learners have the opportunity, support, and motivation to learn and use French.
WHAT IS CONCOURS?
The Councours d’art oratoire is Canada’s largest annual French public-speaking competition.
The competition is open to students in every province and territory in a wide range of age/grade categories and French abilities. Thousands of students participate every year in communities big and small for their opportunity to win prizes and/0r scholarships to postsecondary institutions.
VOLUNTEER ROLES FOR CONCOURS
Canadian Parents for French is looking for volunteers to help us during our Councours d’art oratoire event. Volunteers play a key role in helping to pull off a successful event. Volunteers will assist in the general set-up and breakdown of the venue, serve as guides, greeters, and assist during the competition portion of the event. All volunteers will receive training on the day of the event. We are looking for people who can help serve as warm ambassadors to our bilingual participants, people who can dress and act appropriately, and people who are interested in helping to support our organization's mission.
Here are some examples the types of roles volunteers will serve during the event:
- Timekeeper: A timekeeper is a person who measures time with the assistance of a clock or a stopwatch. In addition, a timekeeper records the official length of time or length of each participant's speech.
- Greeter: CPF needs friendly and outgoing individuals to welcome participants and their families in a warm and helpful manner. This role requires knowledge of both French and English.
- Master of Ceremonies is the host of the event who presents participants, speaks to the audience, and generally keeps an event moving.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Most positions require volunteers to be bilingual but there are a few positions available during the event for those who only speak one of the Official Languages.
- Must be 14 years of age or older.
