Coppell Community Garden

The Coppell Community Garden, an all-volunteer run organization, is successful because of the many volunteers joined in the effort to build community and healthy living in Coppell. The volunteers have learned, planned, and worked with one another to develop a system of transformation for each individual involved throughout the larger community.

Adopt-a-plot

Individuals, families and organizations can adopt a raised garden bed (when available) to grow vegetables and fruits for donation to the Metrocrest Services food pantry. Gardeners can take produce from their plot for personal use as well. If a garden bed is not available, volunteering at the garden is recommended until a garden bed is available. All gardeners are required to recommit to their garden plots at the annual meeting at the beginning of each year.

Gardeners must commit to providing the labor and attention required year-round to have a successful garden. The Coppell Community Garden provides an orientation, tools, some seed/transplants at a reduced cost, and written booklets to help the volunteer gardeners. Garden plots vary in size from 70 to 100 sq. ft.

The weekly harvest pick-up occurs every Saturday at 10:00am almost year round. All gardeners are responsible for harvesting their produce each Saturday morning in time for the pick-up. They are also responsible to share in gardening chores required to maintain the gardens. More info can be found here.

Coppell Community Garden Handyman Volunteer

The Coppell Community Gardens is looking for a handyperson that is willing to donate a portion of their time with minor garden related repairs. A baseline of knowledge is needed to aid with repairing the occasional leaking faucets, holes in soaker hoses, garden plot realignment, and other minor plumbing fixes which are some of tasks that are vital to the community gardens' ability to thrive. If you are interested, have a heart for your community, are looking for a perfect soft entrance into the world of volunteering, this is the ideal position for you. Orchard Manager

The Coppell Community Gardens (a local non-profit organization) is in need of an Orchard Manger to help organize and lead a group of volunteers. The mission of the Coppell Community garden program is to provide organic produce to those in need and this position will be instrumental in introducing a significant quantity of fruits into that mix. Twice a month, you will help ensure everything is growing properly and twice a year you will help organize volunteers to prune and harvest the trees.  Everything that is produced by the fruit trees is delivered to our local food bank.

Greenhouse Volunteer

We start seedlings in our greenhouse and distribute them to our three community gardens and school gardens throughout the Coppell Independent School District. Twice each year, we sell starter plants at the Coppell Farmers Market in order to raise funds to support the greenhouse and to engage with the Coppell gardening community.

Volunteers are needed to start seeds, transplant seedlings to pots, wash and sterilize pots, fertilize seedlings, water plants, clean the greenhouse, deliver seedlings to our community gardens and help with the operation and maintenance of the greenhouse. No prior greenhouse experience is required.

To mitigate the summer heat in Texas, the greenhouse has two evaporative coolers. These coolers require regular maintenance including replacing the media and the water pumps. If you have any experience with evaporative coolers and would like to volunteer, we would really like to hear from you.

Volunteers are needed to operate the greenhouse and to direct and supervise youth volunteers who assist in the greenhouse.

If you would like to volunteer in our greenhouse, please fill out the greenhouse registration and the greenhouse manager will contact you to arrange a meeting.
