Volunteer Opportunities at Sugar Land Animal Services

Volunteers play a vital role in caring for the animals and supporting our mission. Opportunities at the shelter include:

Animal Care & Enrichment

• Dog walking 

• Dog enrichment

• Cat playtime and enrichment

• Cat grooming

• Dog grooming

• Adoption support at community events

Cleaning & Shelter Care

• Dog kennel cleaning

• Cat kennel cleaning

• General shelter support (laundry, dishes, organizing supplies, etc.)

Specialized assignments are denoted with bold text. If you are interested in these roles, please let the shelter staff know so we can guide you through the steps.

How to Become a Volunteer

To join our volunteer team, applicants must complete the following steps:

1. Submit a volunteer application.

2. Complete a background check.

   • New volunteers will receive an email with instructions to complete the background check through Sterling Volunteers.

   • Current volunteers who have already completed a background check with the City of Sugar Land do not need to submit again.

3. Youth volunteers must upload a completed and signed Parent Consent Form.

4. Complete Orientation.

   • After submitting your application, you will be automatically directed to the Animal Services Orientation and Volunteer Handbook Orientation.

   • Watch the orientation videos and answer the follow-up questions to finish the process.
