Would you like a pet but are not in a position to give long term commitment? Do you have time to devote to helping a dog, cat or small pet whilst they are waiting to be rehomed? Your local Blue Cross Rehoming and Advice Unit is looking for committed people who can offer temporary foster care to needy pets in their own homes.

 

What you will be doing:

  • Caring for Blue Cross pets in your own home to provide short term respite care or until they can be rehomed

  • You will be providing all the care they need – feeding, exercising, cleaning, socialising, giving medication and grooming

  • Liaising with Blue Cross foster and rehoming team, social media team and liaising with local vets

  • Keeping accurate records and providing regular updates to form pets' assessment 

What we are looking for:

  • Experience of handling and caring for pets

  • You need to be able to travel to the centre to transfer pets and also take them to the vets if needed

  • A spare room or suitable outdoor space for accommodation if fostering cats or small pets, a garden is beneficial if fostering dogs

  • A willingness to care for pets who have additional training needs
  • Access to a computer

  • Willingness to learn and follow Blue Cross procedures

  • Competent, flexible and self motivated

Time commitment: Flexible dependant on the needs of each pet.  Opportunities available for overnight, short term and longer term fostering.
