Dog carer

Are you a dog lover looking for a chance to gain practical experience and skills? Would you love to spend time with dogs but are not currently in a position to have a dog yourself? Blue Cross is looking for enthusiastic and caring people to help us look after our dogs until they find loving new homes.

What you will be doing:

  • Helping with routine cleaning in the kennels
  • Feeding, bathing, grooming and exercising the dogs
  • Socialising the dogs, stroking, playing with them and getting them used to being handled
  • Some basic dog training following Blue Cross procedures
  • Monitoring health, welfare and behaviour of the dogs
  • We expect all our centre volunteers to take an active role in raising awareness for the centre by attending occasional local events

What we are looking for:

  • Regular commitment and reliability
  • An interest in dog welfare. Experience of owning or caring for dogs is an advantage.
  • Ability to work in a team or alone
  • An understanding of the care dogs require and willingness to carry out routine tasks such as cleaning
  • Willingness to learn and follow Blue Cross procedures
  • A reasonable level of fitness

Benefits to you:

  • You’ll be helping pets to have happy, healthy lives
  • Spend quality time with our dogs then watch them go to new homes
  • A chance to spend time with dogs without the commitment of pet ownership
  • Stay active and healthy
  • Develop skills and enhance your CV for a career in animal welfare
  • Join a great team of like-minded people
  • Gain practical skills and experience
