Woodwork Volunteer Program - Aged Care

Volunteer Opportunity – Woodwork Program (Barwon Health Aged Care)

Are you handy with basic woodworking skills and enjoy sharing your time with others? Barwon Health is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to support our residents in our Woodwork Program at:

  • The McKellar Centre, North Geelong (Thursday mornings)

  • Alan David Lodge, Grovedale (day and time to be confirmed)

This is a wonderful opportunity to help residents create simple projects such as wooden toys, planter boxes and other handmade items. Our residents love getting involved, and your support can make a real difference to their day.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Assisting residents with woodworking activities (no advanced skills required).

  • Helping with setup and pack down of equipment.

  • Encouraging and supporting residents as they sand, varnish, and paint their creations.

  • Sharing conversation and companionship – sometimes a friendly chat makes all the difference!

What we’re looking for:

  • Basic woodworking skills (or just a willingness to have a go).

  • A friendly, patient and supportive outlook.

  • Reliability and an interest in contributing to residents’ wellbeing.

What you’ll gain:

  • A chance to share your skills and passions in a meaningful way.

  • The joy of seeing residents take pride in their handmade projects.

  • Training, orientation and ongoing support from our Lifestyle Staff and experienced volunteers.

  • Buddy shifts to help you feel confident in your role.

  • Opportunities to meet new people and be part of a welcoming volunteer community.

Requirements:

  • All aged care volunteers must have 3 COVID-19 and current influenza vaccinations.

  • You may also be required to complete an NDIS screening check (we can help you with this).
