Aquatics Programming Volunteer - Saint John Regional Y

Qualifications and Skills: Current and clear security clearance with vulnerable sector screening, current Standard First Aid and CPR – B Training, strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to interact with members and build relationships in a diverse community.

Minimum age 13 years, at least six months experience working with children aged 3 to 15 years preferred. Bronze Medallion and or Bronze Cross Certification preferred. YMCA Assistant Swim Instructor Course Certification preferred. Strong swimming skills required with high comfort level in a pool environment.


  • Assists Aquatics staff in providing children and youth ages 3 to 15 years registered in the swim program healthy opportunities to learn and improve their swim skills
  • Assists in a variety of roles to support Aquatics staff including attendance, equipment set-up and cleaning, change room supervision and the like
  • Use respectable language at all times
  • Well groomed and appropriately dressed in clothing that is fitting for the position and that will leave the best possible impression on the public
  • Accept the guidance and decisions from the Supervisor/Director as well as reporting planned or unplanned absence to the Supervisor/Director
  • Treat staff, clients and other volunteers of the YMCA of Greater Saint John with respect and dignity and be responsible in the use of the YMCA of Greater Saint John’s resources
  • Perform Volunteer responsibilities promptly, reliably and to the best of the Volunteer’s ability  Adhere to policies and procedures of the YMCA of Greater Saint John
  • Accept and work within the YMCA of Greater Saint John’s Guiding Principles, the Mission Statement as well as the Values of the YMCA of Greater Saint John
  • Display appropriate YMCA of Greater Saint John Volunteer identification as required
  • Participate in orientation and training programs when required Time Commitment: Various work shifts as determined by Aquatics Supervisor
