Location:Millidgeville Community Centre, Saint John Regional Y and Early Learning Centre
Type of Position:Time Commitment: 2-5 hours/week or as needed
Placement Date:Immediate

Qualifications and Skills
University and/or College diploma considered an asset. Strong competence in grammar, spelling and syntax with the interest in sharing these skills to help strengthen these skills in others. Previous employment and/or volunteer experience proofreading written pieces would be an asset. Flexibility regarding assigned working hours, site locations. Current and clear security clearance with vulnerable sector screening and Department of Social Development required.


  • Proofread documentations each week within a 24 hour time period while ensuring all documentations posted are grammatically correct and free of errors
  • Check for spelling and grammar within the template provided to ensure professional documentations are represented at each Child Care Centre
  • Ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times, refraining from sharing specific details learned through proofreading documentations
  • Use respectable language at all times
  • Accept the guidance and decisions from the Supervisor
  • Treat staff, clients and other volunteers of the YMCA of Greater Saint John with respect and dignity and be responsible in the use of the YMCA of Greater Saint John’s resources
  • Perform Volunteer responsibilities promptly, reliably and to the best of the Volunteer’s ability
  • Adhere to policies and procedures of the YMCA of Greater Saint John
  • Accept and work within the YMCA of Greater Saint John’s Guiding Principles, the Mission Statement as well as the Values of the YMCA of Greater Saint John
  • Display appropriate YMCA of Greater Saint John Volunteer identification as required
  • Participate in orientation and training programs when required


  • Be a part of the YMCA team and promote the Mission, Vision and Values of the YMCA
  • Opportunity to enhance skills as well as learn and develop new skills
  • Learn about diversity at the YMCA and meet new people from all walks of life

  • Reference letter supplied with successful volunteer experience upon request
