Literacy Tutor - Newcomer Connections

Type of Position: A 3-month commitment of 1-3 hours per week

Nature and Scope
Literacy tutors provide teaching support to adult learners in LINC (Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada) classes. After receiving relevant training, they meet with the adult learners individually to help them improve their literacy skills in English. This position is coordinated by Kendra Gautreau, Volunteer Liaison, K.Gautreau@saintjohny.ca


  • Attend orientation and relevant training provided by Newcomer Connections
  • Work one-on-one with beginner level ESL students to provide literacy instruction
  • Complete progress reports using the framework provided for this purpose
  • Update the Community Volunteer Liaison on any issues in a timely manner
