Skill Set Requirements

Loch Lomond Villa is the largest Planetree designated long term care community in the world and takes great pride in being part of the Planetree Continuing Care philosophy of person-centered care.  The role of the House Recreation Leaders requires above all else, a pleasant and outgoing personality that matches our friendly and welcoming home.  In addition to a helpful and friendly personality we are specifically seeking volunteers who possess the following skills and qualifications;

  • Ability to meet and deal pleasantly with the public and our residents
  • Ability to follow direction and perform duties without constant supervision
  • Ability to relate to the elderly, and residents who may be physically and mentally impaired
  • Ability to work well with others and function as a team member
  • Ability to read, write and follow written and verbal instructions in English
  • Must be adaptable and willing to change focus depending on varying circumstances
  • Must be creative and willing to take initiative
  • Neat and clean in appearance
  • Physically able to perform all assigned duties
  • Must provide a Criminal Record and Social Development check
  • Must sign a confidentiality record

Computers, IPad, CD Player, Various Games, Wheelchairs, Walkers, Television, Household Kitchen Equipment


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Confer with House Manager upon arrival to determine what residents may need social or recreational activity at this particular time
  • Engage residents in various recreational or social activities as directed by House Manager which may include one on one visitations
  • Develop personal relationships with residents to establish connections by talking with and reading residents bio
  • Prepare resident attendance sheets and submit to Volunteer Office at end of session
  • Ensure the workspace and common area is kept clean and tidy and free of potential hazards that may pose a risk to residents and visitors
  • Support residents who may require assistance
  • Possess proper regard for confidential information
  • Maintain good public relations with residents, families, staff, other departments and the community
  • In case of fire, or other internal disaster or community disaster, ability to perform duties as assigned
  • Accurate record keeping relating to time and attendance for both the volunteer and the residents
