Nature and Scope
The Immigration Documentation Specialist helps newcomers to Canada to complete forms for submission to Citizenship and Immigration Canada. This volunteer opportunity is on an as-needed basis and may involve short periods of activity to help newcomers submit documentation within deadlines, followed by long periods of inactivity. Volunteers must be willing to learn how to complete any immigration document. This opportunity would be very suitable for someone who is methodical and detail-oriented. This position is co-ordinated by Kendra Gautreau, Volunteer Liaison, K.Gautreau@saintjohny.ca


  • Attend orientation and relevant training provided by Newcomer Connections
  • Research and follow guidelines for filling out immigration forms accurately
  • Meet with the newcomer client in need of assistance with immigration documentation and work with him or her to get the necessary information to complete the documentation
  • Complete documentation accurately and fully
  • Give the completed documentation to the newcomer client
  • Update the Community Volunteer Liaison on any issues in a timely manner
