Mission Statement
Community Cafe Volunteer
Action for Children is a national charity that supports and speaks out on behalf of the most vulnerable and neglected children and young people in the heart of communities throughout the UK.
In Newcastle we run the Galafield Community Hub and Cafe, in the Outer West of the City.
The Galafield Community Hub in Newbiggin Hall is a thriving centre serving the whole community. We have Sports and Leisure activities, support groups, Dance, New Baby sessions and Adult Learning. Alongside this we have specialist support when needed such as benefits advice and a Foodbank.
The Community Cafe is a new venture at the heart of the centre. This is a welcoming and friendly place for people to drop in and relax, with a Soft Play Centre opening soon. We are providing the space for people to re-connect and end the isolation that COVID has imposed.
We are looking for volunteers to support the Cafe Manager to provide a warm welcome to everyone using the cafe, to assist in the day to day running of the Community Café, e.g. preparing food and clearing up in compliance with Food Hygiene and Health and Safety regulations (full training will be given), to help organise special events e.g. children’s events, family cook sessions, pensioners lunches.
