Transporting Young Carers to and from activities
A young carer is someone aged between 8 - 18 who helps care for a family member. Action for Children young carers service provides activities and groups to help support these young people. Activities usually take place during the evenings or weekends but this would vary during school holidays.
One of the biggest challenges to our service is getting the young people to and from activities. Many do not have access to a car or live rurally. We cover a large geographical area, Belfast, South Eastern and Southern Trust areas.
We aim to recruit a team of volunteers who can assist us with transport. This would mean collecting a few young people from their home address and driving them to the activity, helping supervise and return them back home after.
We would aim to match you with young people living in your area.
All volunteers would need a full and clean driving license. They would require business use on their car insurance – enquire with your insurer as often this is free to upgrade to. All volunteers would also go through enhanced Access NI vetting.
In return we would offer mandatory training and support as well as pay mileage at 40p per mile.
