What we need you to do

Intandem is a Scotland’s national mentoring programme, offering mentoring on a regular basis to children and young people involved in the care system, specifically those living at home (under a compulsory supervision order) or with extended family (kinship care).

The young person you will be supporting may have become involved with the care system when parents struggle to navigate through tough times. This could be chronic illness, mental health problems or a death in the family – all things that can make it harder to give children the best care and support.

Supporting young people from 5-14 years old providing them a consistent, caring mentoring relationship helps these children and young people develop positive wellbeing and resilience giving them the foundations they need to build strong relationships in the future and overcome trauma experienced in the past.

You will be matched with a young person and will meet with them on a regular basis over the 12 month period to provide support and mentorship.

The mentor will receive this in return

  • Training / level 2 qualifications in social care areas
  • Job opportunities
  • Taking part in fun events
  • Mileage covered
  • Supervision support.
  • Experience

intandem is funded by Scottish Government and The Robertson Trust, and is managed by Inspiring Scotland.

intandem works alongside 12 partner charities to train and match volunteer mentors with children and young people. This community-based approach also strengthens local  communities by providing training and opportunities for volunteers to be part of young people’s lives and healthy development.

Relationships change lives.

With the right support, all children and young people can thrive and communities are strengthened. Our vision is that all young people who are in care or on the edge of care have the resilience and confidence to succeed in life.

We are committed to the pledges made in the Independent Care Review and to #KeepThePromise. We place young people’s voices at the heart of all we do. Our Young Persons Forum “InVoice” provides a platform for young people to speak on the issues that affect them.
