Family Support Assistance

Be rewarded and have new experiences, volunteer with us as an Family Support Assistance.

Can you:

  • Communicate clearly
  • Able to empathise with parents struggling to cope with family life
  • Be respectful and non-judgemental while not accepting of behaviours that are damaging to others
  • Able to identify when children are at risk, in the home or community
  • Understand the importance of maintaining confidentiality

What you can expect:

  • Family Support Assistants play a key role in working with parents to identify and address pressure points in family life before they escalate to a problematic level. 
  • You will provide practical and emotional support to parents
  • Help them to continue to implement strategies developed with our Family Partners to reduce difficulties. 
  • Visiting families in their own home and sometimes accompanying them to groups or activities in the community.

Our Vision

The Weymouth & Portland Children's Centres offer support, fun activities and groups for everyone caring for a child 0-5 years and family support work in the home for 0-10 year olds.

Our groups include universal Stay & Play, Baby Massage, Breast Feeding Support, Young Parents Group, Dads group and parenting and development advice.
