Home Library Service – Volunteer Role
Brimbank Libraries
Brimbank Libraries is a dynamic public library service in Melbourne’s western suburbs, delivering a range of services and programs to the community to support lifelong learning, literacy and social connection.
About the role
As a volunteer for Home Library Service, you will be responsible for delivering library items to residents of Brimbank and bringing their returns back to the library. It is possible to complete these tasks at one of our five branches in Brimbank – Sydenham, Deer Park, Sunshine, St. Albans or Keilor.
Residents who are eligible for the service include customers that:
- Cannot come to the library due to illness, frailty or disability
- Are caring full-time for someone who cannot come to the library due to illness, frailty or disability
- Are temporarily housebound or
- Have a genuine need for the service
About you
Are you caring, empathetic and passionate about assisting vulnerable people in the community? Do you love to chat about books and enjoy social interaction with people who may be isolated and looking for a personal connection?

You must:
- Have excellent communication and organisational skills
- Be physically fit, as the role requires walking, lifting, bending and carrying full library bags, which can sometimes be heavy
- Have a valid driver’s licence and your own car for deliveries (you will be paid for kilometres travelled)
- Have a police check and working with children check (volunteer). These are part of the application process and are paid for by council
