About the opportunity.
The Indigenous Family Violence Support program is for any Aboriginal woman who is experiencing – or is at risk of – family and domestic violence. This is a free, confidential service providing wrap around services including groups, counselling, social support and adult literacy learning support, tailored to meet the needs of individuals.
Who we are looking for.
We welcome volunteers who have
- good communication, organisational and listening skills
- the ability to be sensitive, patient, understanding and respectful of the learner's situation, needs and goals
- a willingness to be creative, flexible and enthusiastic.
- Cultural awareness for the First Nations People of Australia
- knowledge of the history of First Nations being in Australia and willingness to learn.
Tasks
Duties may include:
- Provide learning support for individuals and/or groups of learners.
- Prepare learning activities appropriate to the literacy levels and needs of your learner.
- Meet with your learner, usually a minimum of once a week for approximately 2 hours.
- Report on progress of your learner on a regular basis.
- Encourage independent learning and aid access to Library facilities and services.
- Record your volunteer hours

Flexible hours Monday to Thursday by arrangement
Requirements.
A commitment to completing training requirements (including e-learning) is required for the role. Role specific training includes:
- Uniting Induction, orientation and training
- Cultural Awareness Training
Volunteering with Uniting is subject to completing the relevant role specific training and satisfactory background checks which include a National Police Check and Reference Checks. (Police Clearance applications can be organised by Uniting)
