Nature Centre - Animal Care 

Location: Ipswich Nature Centre, Queens Park
Work with the team of INC staff and volunteers to assist in feeding, weighing and maintaining animals and their enclosures (this includes cleaning, washing, raking and general animal care). 

This role is offered in 6-month blocks to give more people a chance to work with us and to create certainty for our volunteers. All new volunteers will need to nominate one shift they can commit to each week for the duration of the 6 month block.

Applicants will be contacted as positions become available in the Nature Centre volunteering program.  

Shift availability varies so please include your availability when applying. 

Volunteer shifts occur 7 days a week and are done at the below times: 
All Day: 7:15am - 4:15pm,
Mornings 7:15am-12pm or
Afternoons 12pm-4:15pm

Interested volunteers will have:
• A basic understanding of animal care and maintenance and a passion for learning
• Ability to commit to at least one regular shift per week for a 6 month period
• Physically fit and capable of carrying out manual handling tasks

How many volunteers are needed? It will depend on how many shifts are available at the time of recruitment.

Pre-Requisites: Volunteers must be able to show proof of immunisation against Q Fever before starting. Please contact your GP for more information. Accepted volunteers who successfully pass their probation are eligible for a reimbursement for the cost of this vaccination. Applicants will be given more information regarding Q Fever at the phone interview stage.

Animal Care Recruitment Process-
1. Interested candidates can register their interest on the Volunteer Portal

2. The Volunteer Coordination Officer will contact all interested candidates via email before the next recruitment block to confirm interest.

4. Candidates will be invited to book in a phone interview slot.

3. The Volunteer Coordination Officer will call interested candidates to talk about their motivation and their understanding of the volunteer work on offer. If they are deemed a suitable match, and their availability matches the opportunities available, candidates move to the next stage.

6. All successful candidates will be notified via email and invited to induction night, ready for their first shift.
