This is an exciting opportunity to support our Communities Team in Dundee. You will also gain experience of volunteering within a recognised national housing charity.

 

Days for volunteering: This is flexible and can be discussed

Location: In our Dundee office and outreach sessions at external organisations (no lone working or home visits)

Volunteer Mentor: Senior Housing Rights Worker

 

Volunteers are essential to Shelter’s mission to end housing injustice. We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds. The insights and life experiences our volunteers bring to Shelter are valued as much as their contribution through volunteering.

We aim to provide our volunteers with a positive experience. This is by prioritising accessibility and tailoring the support we provide to the needs of the individual. We make sure our policies and processes are equitable, which means that no-one is unfairly disadvantaged while volunteering because of their background or identity.

 

Main Tasks include

  • Triage clients:  supporting the senior housing rights worker either by taking incoming telephone calls or at outreach venues. This will involve engaging with clients taking necessary details.
  • Stories collection: support with obtaining stories from clients either at outreach or on phone.
  • Capacity Building: support with rights awareness sessions (in person or online). This will involve assisting with admin prior, during and after sessions.
  • Any other basic admin duties as and when required.

 

 

Skills and experience required

  • Confident in using computer programmes such as Word and Excel
  • Strong communication skills
  • Empathetic and a good listener
  • Ability to collaborate with a team
  • Willingness to follow Shelter Scotland policies, including Volunteering, Health & Safety, Equality & Diversity, Confidentiality and Data Protection
