Our shops raise vital funds for our fight against homelessness and bad housing - and they’re powered by our volunteers!
We’re looking for people to support us in a variety of ways; sorting stock, serving customers, creating fantastic window displays – the list is endless! You might be an admin whizz or a digital enthusiast who can help drive footfall through social media. We’ve got all sorts of opportunities for you to join us, wherever you are.
Suggested Involvement: It’s up to you! We have volunteers who support for one hour a week and others who are with us 5 days a week.
Location: Shops in North London - Kings Cross
Supervised by: Community Shop Manager/Assistant Manager
Why get involved with Shelter? Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. We campaign to make sure that one day, no one will have to turn to us for help. We're here so no one has to fight bad housing or homelessness on their own.
Which Role is right for you?
Retail Social Media Volunteer Supporting the management team in the running of shops' social media platforms.
Retail Volunteer Assisting with sorting, steaming and pricing stock, serving on the till to include cash handling
Retail Duke of Edinburgh Volunteer Supporting with stock preparation, pricing and rotation as well as being a young ambassador for Shelter in your local community
Retail Administrative Support Volunteer Supporting the management team with administrative duties both computer and paper based
Retail Recruitment Coordinator Volunteer You'll be our expert lead on local volunteer recruitment and support with the induction of newly recruited volunteers to the shop
Retail Young Person Volunteer Supporting with stock preparation, pricing and rotation as well as being a young ambassador for Shelter in your local community
Retail Volunteer Supervisor Holding the shop in a supervisory capacity in the absence of the Management team
Skills and Experiences Required: Some experience of working in Retail would be beneficial but not essential to us as full training provided. What’s really important to us is that you want to be part of our teams and come ready to share your individual skills and experiences.
We do request that you are willing to follow Shelter’s policies, including volunteering, health & safety, equality & diversity, confidentiality & data protection.
Induction, Learning and Development: To enable you to take part in this opportunity Shelter will:
• Provide you with a Volunteer Handbook and all relevant Policies/Procedures
• Provide learning: including, Health & Safety, Data Protection and Safeguarding
• Provide an on the job induction
• Pay “out of pocket” expenses in line with Shelter’s volunteer expenses policy
