Driving Community Visitor

Purpose |

The Driving Community Visitor provides companionship to Home Care clients in order to alleviate loneliness and isolation. The volunteer may also help a client enjoy and participate in past hobbies and activities as deemed safe and appropriate by Home Care and Volunteer Resources. |

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities |
|
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required. Volunteers should be able to initiate conversation easily and be mature, calm, patient, friendly, supportive, and skilled listeners. · The ability to work independently and practice sound judgment while adhering to Home Care guidelines for interaction with clients is essential. · Volunteers should be reliable and punctual; completing visits on agreed upon days and times and informing clients in advance when visits need to be rescheduled. · Volunteers should be, as much as possible, accepting of a variety of cultures and personal life styles. The volunteer should be able to lay aside his or her own feelings, and focus on the client. · Past experience with seniors or persons with disabilities is considered an asset. · Volunteers should have experience and confidence navigating a vehicle and adhering to traffic safety laws while transporting a passenger. |
