Friendly Visitor (minimum age requirement 18)
Available shifts:
Mondays to Sundays/ 2 hour shifts/ various times
If you have been looking for a volunteering opportunity that interacts directly with patients, makes a huge impact in someone's mood and behavior, and enhances patient care, then Friendly Visitor is the program for you. With one on one visits you get to give your time to someone who could use a friend. There are many patients in the hospital that do not receive visitors for various reasons, and our volunteers are able to change this. Social interaction and human connection have been proven to improve a mood. Would you like to be a part of this change?
Duties include:
- Visit and provide Companionship to patients on hospital units.
- Provide information to patients and visitors about non-medical hospital services.
- Assist patients to and from areas within the hospital.
- Interact with patients using a variety of approved activities such as reading, playing games etc.
- Maintain communication with the Friendly Visitor team
Requirements:
- Must be available to work one 2 hour shift each week
- Must meet the minimum age requirement(18yrs+)
- Must be motivated, self directed, feel comfortable working individually
- Must be reliable and consistent and feel comfortable communicating with patients
- Must adhere to confidentiality and privacy laws
- Must have previous experience working with people
