About us

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) is a non-government, community-based not-for-profit organisation whose purpose is to exist for animals to live better lives.  We are Victoria’s best-known and most respected animal welfare organisation.

Role Purpose

Our op shops provide much needed funds to support RSPCA Victoria achieve our vision of “ending cruelty to all animals”. The op shops also play a visible role in the wider community as the “face” of RSPCA Victoria.

 

The purpose of this role is to help sell a wide range of new and pre-loved items.  This involves serving customers, assisting with stock rotation, sorting and pricing donated goods and keeping the op shop in a tidy and presentable state.

 

This role requires the ability to perform a wide range of tasks as required depending on the op shop activity on the day. 

 

Flexibility and the willingness to contribute to the team’s efforts are important in this role.

Key Tasks

Duties may include:

  • Serving and assisting customers.
  • Receiving, sorting and pricing donated goods.
  • Packaging unsuitable goods appropriately, ready for disposal.
  • Displaying and rotating goods for sale in the store.
  • Performing cash and Eftpos sales.
  • Ensuring the store is clean, tidy and well presented

 

No two days are the same!

 

Skills, qualifications, or experience required

To be successful in this role, a volunteer will need:

  • To be at least 18 years of age.
  • Great customer service skills.
  • The ability to work in a team.
  • Basic mathematical skills.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Manual handling ability (up to 10 kgs).
  • A great sense of humour!

 

To support your volunteering journey, you’ll be asked to use our Volunteer Management System. This helps you complete essential online learning modules and log in and out of your shifts easily.

 

Training & Support Requirements

All training is delivered on the job, ensuring you gain hands-on experience from day one. You’ll be supported every step of the way by the Op Shop Store Manager as well as the Op Shop Network and Volunteer Program Teams.
