About us |
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Victoria) is a non-government, community based charity that works to prevent cruelty to animals by actively promoting their care and protection. Volunteers are an integral part of the RSPCA team. They play an active and vital role in helping to support our work to improve the welfare of animals and protect them from cruelty and neglect. Volunteering involves commitment, dedication and passion.

Role Purpose |
The Maintenance Volunteer role will play an important role within the Facilities & Infrastructure team giving a helping hand with basic indoor and outdoor maintenance, including general facility maintenance, garden duties, general cleaning and basic handyman activities as directed. This role can be varied and will suit a volunteer who is flexible, enjoys undertaking a range of activities, has previous handyman or trade experience and enjoys working in a team. As with all our volunteer roles, each plays an important part in contributing to the work of RSPCA Victoria to end cruelty to all animals and this role is critical to ensure the ongoing amenity of our animal care facilities.

Key Responsibilities |
The Maintenance Volunteer- may be responsible for the following activities:§ General grounds support- garden maintenance, weeding, watering§ General facility support- including tasks such as window cleaning and general cleaning§ Basic handyperson tasks- including light bulb changing, filter changes, minor repairs, setting up/installation/moving furniture§ Manual Handling- moving equipment/supplies around facility as required (for example moving Foster Care pack contents from storage to the main building) using appropriate equipment§ Driving- some incidental driving may be part of this role (please note must be registered as a RSPCA Victoria volunteer driver prior to undertaking driving as part of this role)§ General agricultural works such as paddock, fencing and dam maintenance and repair§ Building works as directed by Facilities & Infrastructure ManagerPlease note-· no “working at heights” tasks to be undertaken by volunteers – always seek clarification from Facilities & Infrastructure Manager· no plumbing or electrical work to be carried out |
Requirements |

To be successful in this role, the volunteer will possess the following necessary skills and attributes:Essential:§ Attention to detail and the ability to follow oral and written instructions carefully§ Ability to carry out work unsupervised or alongside a team member§ Experience with the use of hand and basic garden & power tools§ A good level of physical fitness, mobility and the ability to lift 10kg§ Reliability and ability to meet a regularly rostered shift (if application§ A current, full driver’s license (if undertaking driving duties as part of this role)Desirable:· Experience in an animal shelter or relevant industry experience· Knowledge/experience/commitment to Occupational Health and Safety concerns· Previous handyman experience or in a relevant trade |

· Online RSPCA Victoria Volunteer Orientation· On the job training in use of equipment relevant to duties as required· Personal protective equipment will be provided |
