Volunteers are an integral part of the RSPCA Victoria team. They play an active and vital role in helping to support our work to improve the welfare of animals and protect them from cruelty and neglect.

 

This volunteer educator will play an important role in providing a fun and fulfilling holiday program for all involved. This role will involve supporting RSPCA educators with supervising and guiding children as they undertake various activities, such as meeting animals, making enrichment items for animals, touring the adoption centre.  Our holiday program gives children aged between 5-17 years the opportunity to explore the world of animal care and welfare in an exciting and supportive environment.

 

The Holiday Program volunteer will be responsible for the following activities:

·        Provide support and supervision to children within the holiday program; including welcoming children, showing them where the facilities are located, engaging children in various activities throughout the day and assisting parents with the sign out process at completion.

·        Facilitate holiday program activities; this may include baking dog treats, creating animal enrichment toys for cats, dogs and rabbits .

·        Maintain program delivery areas in a neat and tidy manner, in line with staff instructions and WHS standards; including set and pack down of activities / equipment, maintaining hygiene standards in the kitchen / food preparation areas.

·        Other activities as agreed, to support the holiday program operations.

 

 

To be successful in this role, the volunteer will possess the following necessary skills and attributes:

Essential:

·        Background / experience in working with children under 12 years of age

·        Current Working with Children Check or equivalent

·        A good understanding of RSPCA’s Child Safe Policy

·        Great communication skills – ability to effectively interact and engage with children in the program environment

·        Good facilitation skills – ability to effectively facilitate holiday program activities

·        Ability to follow verbal and written directions and follow set policy and processes of the RSPCA Victoria

·        Ability to work independently within the program environment

·        Shows initiative

·        Good attention to detail

Desirable:

·        RSPCA Volunteer experience

 

National Police Check

Screen for animal cruelty offenses

Drivers Licence

Working with Children Check

Medical - proof of tetanus vaccination
