About us

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Victoria) is a non-government, community-based charity that works to prevent cruelty to animals by actively promoting their care and protection.
RSPCA Victoria was established in Melbourne in 1871. Since this time, the RSPCA has become Australia’s leading animal welfare charity.

Volunteers are an integral part of the RSPCA team. They play an active and vital role in helping to support our work to improve the welfare of animals, and protect them from cruelty and neglect. Volunteering involves commitment, dedication and passion.

 

Role Purpose

The purpose of the Corporate Support Day Volunteer is pivotal to the running of RSPCA Victoria’s Corporate Support Days and our Corporate client relationships.

As a Corporate Support Day Volunteer your primary responsibility is to create a welcoming and positive environment for Corporate clients who are spending the day with us. You play a crucial role in enhancing their overall experience by engaging with the Corporates, providing assistance and ensuring an enjoyable day with us.

This role requires a friendly demeanour, excellent communication skills, and the ability to communicate clearly. Your exceptional people skills, along with your commitment to provide excellent customer service will ensure that all Corporates visiting RSPCA Victoria will be greeted in accordance with our values and associated behaviours, which will leave them with a positive experience and greater knowledge of the RSPCA and our cause. 

 

Key Responsibilities

The Corporate Support Day Volunteer will be responsible for the following activities:

§  Helping set up and pack up for the day.

§  Greeting corporates at the start of the day by creating a comfortable dialogue with them. Ask questions about their pets and engage in conversation.

§  Providing information about the organisation and answering any questions the corporates may have.

§  Assisting with the team-building activities by providing support to the CSEO and other staff members.

§  Demonstrating how specific volunteer activities are carried out.

§  Guiding the group alongside the CSEO during the tour of the shelter and vet clinic.

§  Demonstrating animal handling skills during animal interaction time.

§  Assisting with any ad hoc tasks e.g. picking up catering delivery, setting up in the lunch-room, taking photographs throughout the day and liaising as needed with other internal stakeholders ahead of and during activities.

§  Contributing to a general uplifting environment and chatting with the group throughout the day.

 

A typical Corporate Support Day takes the following form:

9:30 - 10:00

Greet, direct and help welcome the corporate volunteers

10:00 - 11:00

Sit with group during presentations

11:00 - 12:30

Supervise and assisting with volunteering activities. (Activities can include; donation sorting, window washing, high pressure hosing, cleaning carry cages, gardening/mulching etc)

12:30 - 1:00     

Help direct group to lunch room and join group for lunch

1:00 - 1:30

Help direct group to vet clinic tour and site tour

1:30 - 2:30

Accompany group to Barn tour and supervise livestock volunteering activities

2:30 - 3:30

Accompany and supervise group on dog and cat engagement activities (walking dogs and play time)

3:30 - 4:00       

Direct group to meeting room for end of day wrap up  

 

 

Skills, qualifications, or experience required

To be successful in this role, the volunteer will ideally possess the following necessary skills and attributes:

§  It is highly desirable to have RSPCA Volunteer experience.

§  Strong demonstration of the RSPCA values and associated behaviours.

§  Knowledge of the organisation and a demonstrated passion for our work.

§  Ability to relate effectively and respectfully to a wide variety of people.

§  High level of clear and fluent English communication skills.

§  Confidence handling untrained and/or boisterous dogs, cats and other small animals and an ability to read animal behaviour.

§  General fitness, physical strength and the ability to handle loads up to 10kg.

 

Training & Support Requirements

All training and induction required for the role will be provided by the Corporate Support and Experience Officer.

A Corporate Support Day Volunteer Induction will be undertaken prior to commencement, as well as a ‘shadowing’ style training opportunity during an existing Corporate Support Day, assisted by existing CSD Volunteers.
