We have opportunities for Volunteers to join our Emergency Relief Barossa Team, based at our Tanunda office. We are looking for volunteers who are empathetic with good communication and listening skills. This role will help people in our local area by providing Emergency Relief to households who are in an immediate need to overcome an unforeseen financial situation or crisis.
How you can help
By volunteering as a Volunteer Emergency Financial Assistance (EFA) Interviewer you will provide emergency relief in the form of material assistance (including food, vouchers and bedding/linen), together with community information and/or referrals to other services.
Interview and provide assistance to EFA Clients:
• Greet and interview the client and assess eligibility for assistance.
• Complete the paperwork promptly and accurately.
• Assist the client or decline assistance according to the guidelines of the EFA program.
• Advocate on behalf of the client if this is relevant to their circumstances.
• Refer to other services within Lutheran Care or other appropriate services.
• Replenish pantry stock.
• Adhere to and support LC’s policies and procedures.
• Model ethical behaviour and practice consistent with the ethos of Lutheran Care as outlined in the Code of Conduct and stated values.
• Adhere to LC’s Service Standards and Information Sharing Guidelines respecting the privacy and confidentiality of individuals and families accessing services.
• At all times, provide a welcoming, hospitable atmosphere.
• Promote and adhere to LC’s Work Health and Safety guidelines. Maintain a safe and healthy workplace, identify and act upon potential workplace hazards and identify and implement procedures to manage and minimise risks within your team environment.
Liaise with the Volunteer Leader to keep them updated:
• Report for debriefing at the end of your shift
• Advise if you are unable to meet your commitments
• Report all incidents to the Volunteer Leader
• Use safe practice if working alone.

By volunteering as an Emergency Relief Interviewer you have the opportunity to interview clients and assist them access a range of supports they require to help them navigate their way to a better place in their lives.
