Stewards of the Coast and Redwoods

Trail Crew

The Armstrong/Austin Creek Trail Crew has been assisting State Parks with trail maintenance, bridge building and other important projects since 1993. This active group of men and women of all ages and abilities comes together monthly to tackle stewardship projects in both Armstrong Redwoods and Austin Creek. The Sonoma Coast Trail Crew was started in 2006 in response to a great need for additional trail maintenance at Sonoma Coast SP.  Initial funding came from grants, which supplied volunteers with equipment needed to recontour trails, weed whack, remove poison oak and much more. The Willow Creek Trail Crew began as dedicated locals noticed some neglect of the more remote trails.

Tasks: The assignment for the day may be working in the grove repairing fences or cleaning up and ensuring the safety of the trails. Participate in tasks including fuel reduction, trail tread work, clearing ditches, building water bars, clearing paths, plucking weeds, transporting wood and other resources, cutting down trees, and protecting vegetation.

Meeting times: The Sonoma Coast Trail Crew meets on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month at 9 AM, location TBA. The Willow Creek Trail Crew meets on the 1st Wednesday of the month at 9 AM, location TBA. The crew meets on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month at 9:00 AM in front of the Stewards’ Volunteer Office in Armstrong Redwoods SNR. Depending on the project volunteers can expect to work a shift of up to 6 hours.
