Malakoff Diggins State Historic Park

Camp Host

Chute Hill Campground - Availability late April through September, weather dependent.

Malakoff Diggins State Historic Park, a forested 3,000-acre park, is the site of California's largest hydraulic gold mine .The park contains 28 campsites without hookups, 3 cabins and has a separate day use area. Camp Host duties include greeting visitors and providing public assistance and information, firewood sales (Hosts must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.), collecting fees, reporting incidents and emergencies, conducting camp checks, assisting in the Visitor’s Center and light maintenance. Camp Hosts may also have the opportunity to present or assist with interpretive programs.

There is one Camp Host site in the Chute Hill Campground. The Camp Host site comes with a picnic table, fire ring, food storage locker and a sewer hookup (no electricity at this time). Due to food storage regulations and the black bear presence in the park, hard sided equipment is required for Camp Hosts. RV/Trailers can be no longer than 19 ft. Prospective camp host volunteers must be team-oriented with good communication skills and sunny dispositions. We ask that you make a minimum commitment of 4 months, 30 volunteer hours per week and be available on all weekends and holidays. To apply for a Camp Host position, complete a VIPP Application and attach a photo of you with your RV/trailer/vehicle. If you have any questions, you can contact Supervising Park Ranger,

Ryan Randar at (530) 432-2546 or Ryan.Randar@parks.ca.gov.  You can either email your completed application and photo to Ryan Randar or mail it to:
