Anza-Borrego Desert State Park Botany volunteer opportunities
The ABDSP botany department is looking for dedicated volunteers who wish to help with a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:
- Invasive plant removal (sahara mustard, volutaria, invasive grasses, bullthistle, mullein, etc.)
- Herbarium work (mounting plant specimens)
- Plant surveys, especially for rare plants
- Public outreach (plant walks, wildflower stations, etc.)
For everything other than invasive plant management, you must take a 12 week botany certification course (generally held every Monday from mid-January to early April) to qualify. This class is hosted by the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park Botany Society (www.anzaborregobotany.org), a group of trained botany volunteers who have all taken the certification course themselves.
We are only accepting volunteers who are willing to volunteer 40 hours per calendar year or more.
