Sue-meg State Park
Volunteer Days at Sue-meg State Park
2nd Saturday North Coast Redwoods District Volunteer Days
This event is sponsored by the North Coast Redwoods District and the California State Parks Foundation.
We are happy to host a series of public volunteer work days every month. Come by yourself or with friends and family! Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Next to habitat loss, invasive non-native species are the greatest threat to maintaining natural diversity. Non-native plants harm the native ecosystem by competing with and displacing native species, accelerating erosion, increasing fire hazards, altering hydrologic conditions, reducing recreational activities and causing disease and mortality to plants and wildlife. Invasive non-native plants have invaded the park's dense forests of spruce, hemlock, pine, fir and red alder that stretch over an ocean headland dotted with wildflower-festooned meadows.
WHAT WE ARE DOING: Come on out to a habitat restoration volunteer day from 9am-12pm at beautiful Sue-meg State Park and learn about native flora and fauna, become educated on natural resource management techniques and tools, and meet new community members. Activities will include invasive plant control and habitat restoration. Pulling out invasive non-native plants is a moderate activity and work locations are within a ½ mile hike from meeting location.
WHERE TO MEET: Please ask entrance station staff for specific work location and look for volunteer event signs.
WHAT TO BRING: Water, closed-toe shoes, snacks, sunscreen, and hat. Gloves, tools, and training will be provided.
QUESTIONS: Contact Michelle Forys at michelle.forys@parks.ca.gov or at 707-677-3109.
NOTE: Heavy winds and rain will cancel the event.
