California State Parks - Sierra District

D.L. Bliss SP Camp Host

Currently Accepting Applications

Availability mid-May through mid-October - weather dependent

D.L. Bliss State Park borders Emerald Bay State Park to the north. It features one of the finest beaches in the Lake Tahoe region. The park also has popular hiking trails, such as the Lighthouse Trail and the Balancing Rock Nature Trail. The beach is especially popular during summer months. The park contains 165 campsites without hookups, a visitor center and day use parking lots.

Camp Host duties include greeting visitors and providing public assistance and information, firewood sales (Hosts must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.), staffing entrance stations and collecting fees, staffing the visitor center, reporting incidents and emergencies, light maintenance and conducting camp and parking checks. Camp Hosts may also have the opportunity to present or assist with interpretive programs.

There are three Camp Host sites, each with a set schedule. Each Camp Host site comes with a picnic table, fire ring, food storage locker, 110 volt 30 amp electrical hookup and a sewer hookup. Due to food storage regulations and the black bear presence in the park, hard sided equipment is required for Camp Hosts. Prospective camp host volunteers must be team-oriented with good communication skills and sunny dispositions. We ask that you make a minimum commitment of 4 months, 30 volunteer hours per week and be available on all weekends and holidays.

When you apply, please include a photo of your RV/trailer/vehicle.

If you have questions, please contact (530) 523-3187 or Elizabeth.McMillan@parks.ca.gov.
