Docents walk around the park, answering visitors’ questions and volunteering information to those that look interested in something. This is called “informal interpretation.”
The docent also watches for resource violators, such as people walking off trail or picking flowers, and educates them about the effects of their actions. If pets are on the trail, docents check if they are service animals and advise those that are not that they are not allowed in the park. Docents to NOT enforce laws or negatively confront visitors, but contact rangers if needed.
Trail Watch docents keep an eye out for where particular flowers are blooming to pass on to the visitor center staff, restock maps and are encouraged to pick up litter in the habitat.
