Volunteer Days at Tolowa Dunes State Park
1st and 3rd Sunday North Coast Redwoods District Volunteer Day
This event is sponsored by the North Coast Redwoods District, Tolowa Dunes Stewards, and Redwood Parks Conservancy.
We are happy to host a series of public volunteer work days every month. Come by yourself or with friends and family! Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Next to habitat loss, invasive non-native species are the greatest threat to maintaining natural diversity. Non-native plants harm the native ecosystem by competing with and displacing native species, accelerating erosion, increasing fire hazards, altering hydrologic conditions, reducing recreational activities and causing disease and mortality to plants and wildlife. Invasive non-native plants have invaded the park's coastal dunes and wetlands.
WHAT WE ARE DOING: Please join the California State Parks, to restore and explore the precious native habitat we’ve recovered at the Big Dune Nan-ts’vn and South Lake Tolowa in Tolowa Dunes State Park and learn about native flora and fauna, become educated on natural resource management techniques and tools, and meet new community members. Activities will include invasive plant control and habitat restoration. Pulling out invasive non-native plants is a moderate activity and work location is within a 1-mile hike from meeting location.
WHERE TO MEET: Meet Park staff at 12pm at the gate Lake Earl Wildlife Area Information Center located at 2591 Old Mill Road, Crescent City, CA 95531.
WHAT TO BRING: Water, closed-toe shoes, snacks, sunscreen, and hat. Gloves, tools, and training will be provided.
