Benicia Capitol State Historic Park Volunteer Docent
The Volunteer Docents at Benicia Capitol State Historic Park undertake a variety of responsibilities. Providing guided tours of our historic buildings by far is the largest responsibility. Docents must be comfortable speaking in group settings and be willing to learn both techniques and historical information to provide historically accurate yet responsive tours.
Docents who volunteer at the Historic Benicia Capitol focus on early California history and interpreting the role various factors had in getting the Capitol to move five times ultimately settling in Sacramento in 1854.
Docents who volunteer at the Fisher-Hanlon House focus on family life and interpret the history of one family over three generations as seen through the personal objects and home remodels/changes they made.
