SPIRIT Volunteer - Supporting Individuals with Disabilities
Thank you for your interest in volunteering for the City of Surrey’s SPIRIT (Support Participation and Inclusion: Reach-out, Involve and Transform) Volunteer Program.
The SPIRIT Volunteer Program aims to:
- Increase involvement and access for individuals with disabilities in our community in recreation activities
- Offer valuable and rewarding volunteer experience
- Provide opportunities to cultivate personal development and education
- Advocate and foster opportunities for inclusion for all members of our diverse community
As a volunteer in this program, you will:
- Provide support in a group or one-to-one setting with participants with disabilities
- Promote inclusive and welcoming environments
- Learn how to adapt activities
- Work collaboratively with instructors and follow directions
- Support volunteers with disabilities to be successful in their volunteer roles
Application Process
Step #1 – Eligibility Requirements
To apply as a SPIRIT volunteer, you must be:
- 15 years or older
- Eligible to volunteer in Canada (check your travel documents, if applicable)
Step #2 – Apply
- Fill in an application
- Attend an interview
- Submit 2 references
- Complete a Police Information Check
Step #3 – Volunteer
- When all the above steps have been completed, you will be contacted by phone or email by a SPIRIT program administrator
This process can take up to 6 weeks so we thank you for your diligence and patience. Once you are eligible to volunteer, log-in to your profile at MyImpactPage.com to search and sign up for volunteer activities, confirm shifts and record your hours of service.
