Thank you for your interest to undertake Student Placement with SSI.

Please note, completing an application does not guarantee an offer of placement. Information and resume you provide will assist us in assessing your suitability. 

Please review below Recruitment Process and Student Criteria before submitting an Expression of Interest

SSI uses an “Expression of Interest” (EOI) process for student placement applications. 

If you are interested in a student placement with us, please speak with your Education Provider to see if we have an established partnership to accommodate your placement.

Individual placement requests from students will not be considered.

Recruitment Process

1) Complete and submit the EOI (left, under "Current Volunteer Opportunities", when EOIs are open) and agree to relevant policies (listed below)

2) Provide a Working with Children Check (NSW/Vic) or Blue Card (Qld) – free for students

3) If you’re a suitable student placement candidate, you’ll be invited to attend an interview with our Volunteer Team and your potential workplace supervisor, for further assessment

4) If successful at the interview stage, complete Criminal History Check (SSI pays for and organises this on your behalf)

5) Attend an IT handover session. This will be considered your first day of placement. (Failure to attend allocated IT handover sessions will result with placement opportunity being forfeited)

6) Complete mandatory trainings within one month of starting your placement. 

Student Criteria

Due to high volume of applications received by SSI, we screen applicants who are:

1) Undertaking Bachelor Social Work, Master of Social Work, Cert 4 and Diploma of Community Services commencing from February 2026.

2) Meet skills/experiences, and language requirements of SSI programs

3) Willingness to travel and be based in Western Sydney (NSW) or Logan/Ipswich (QLD) SSI Locations. 

4) Complete all required onboarding checks before due date.
