Annual Appeal Area Coordinator

Recruiting Volunteer Area Coordinators for Thorndon and the Northern Suburbs for the Annual Appeal on Thursday 14th May!
The Street Appeal collection is one of the major events during the year to raise money to help keep the Mary Potter Hospice services free and to raise awareness of its services.
The Annual Appeal Site/Area Coordinator is responsible for managing volunteer collectors leading up to the collection day and on the day itself.
Key Tasks
Prior to Street Appeal day:
- Attend an information evening which will provide you with all the background knowledge about the campaign (April)
- Source volunteers to fill key sites 4 weeks prior to collection – previous information will be provided to you
- Contact potential volunteers from previous years
- Schedule volunteers accordingly
- Maintain contact with the Project Lead to ensure rosters are complete
- Advise if you have any VIPs (Councillors, MP’s, or people of importance) collecting on your roster (maybe possible to use these people as a media opportunity)
- A week prior to Collection Day, contact volunteers to confirm their roster
- A week prior to Collection Day kits will be available to collect or be dropped off
On Street Appeal day:
- Have an understanding of where paid parking, parking exemptions and appropriate permits are required for parking and collecting in areas
- Set up a stand to provide a central point for collectors to pick up gear and return (if appropriate)
- Ensure collectors are clearly branded and remind them of the protocols
- Give collected money to the designated drivers who will take the bucket and the money to the bank
- At the end of day, a designated car and runner will come and pick up all equipment and money
After Street Appeal day:
- Phone or send out a thank you email to all your collectors with the total figure of money raised (an email thank you template will be provided)
- Attend debrief meeting to discuss what went well and what could be improved
Key Competencies
- Ability to build and maintain relationships
- Excellent communications skills
- Excellent organisation skills
- High level of integrity
- Experience in not-for-profit sector and/or working with volunteers preferred
- Competency in Microsoft Office suite preferred
- Full current driver’s licence and own vehicle preferred
- Ministry of Justice check may be requested for this role
- Works within Mary Potter Hospice's policies and procedures
- Has an understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi
Hours
Episodic / short term volunteering - commencing end of March.
- Approx. 5-10 hours per week leading up to Appeal
- Briefing meeting six weeks before the Appeal
- Street Appeal Day - Thursday 14 May (approx. 8 hours on the day)
- Debrief meeting post event and providing summary
