Meals on Wheels Kitchen Assistant Volunteer

Meals on Wheels Kitchen Assistant

Volunteers play a vital role to ensure we are providing the best possible service to our clients.

The Volunteer Kitchen Assistant supports delivery of meals to frail aged people who live in their homes.

The tasks include includes helping to maintain hygiene within the Hills Shire Councils Food Services Kitchen area with wiping down the work bench and eskies in preparation for delivery of meals followed by picking and packing of meals into the eskies ready for delivery.

Once the meals are packed, the Hills Community Care Coordinator will assist the kitchen assistant to organise meals into their respective delivery runs.

The Volunteer Kitchen Assistant Role is best suited to a person who:

  • Enjoys working as part of team
  • Is willing to maintain the required Food Health Standards
  • Is happy to work across all parts of the kitchen at the request of the coordinator
  • Has their own car or can use public transport

All staff and volunteers must comply and work with the policy and procedural framework of The Hills Shire Council and Hills Community Care. Training is provided for all volunteers.

Emphasis is placed on Work Health and safety, hygiene practices, customer satisfaction and teamwork.

We encourage Volunteers to carefully consider how far you will need to travel to reach the kitchen and if you are likely to be caught in peak hour traffic.
