Meet and Greet Volunteer

About the role

Our Meet and Greet Volunteers welcome individuals and concerned others into the service, meeting and greeting them in the waiting area. Our visitors include clients, potential clients, people concerned about substance use by relatives or friends, and visiting professionals. As part of this role volunteers will help to make everyone feel welcome, and to signpost visitors to the appropriate staff, where needed.

 

Location and Time Commitment

  • 35 Boulevard, Weston-Super-Mare, BS23 1PE and community spaces
  • Minimum of 2 hours per week, within 9-5pm, Monday to Friday

 

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Working in our main reception area to welcome new clients and support them as needed

  • Providing information about the service we provide and answer queries new clients may have.

  • Supporting service staff and volunteers in making the waiting areas comfortable, safe and welcoming.

  • Directing clients and visitors to where they need to go, helping if required.

 

What skills will you need?

  • A friendly, positive and approachable manner.

  • Ability to work with people in a non-judgmental and solution-focused way. 

  • Able to work independently and as part of a diverse team.

  • Ability to empathise and understand the challenges faced by the people using our services.

  • Able to follow instructions and act on own initiative within set boundaries.

  • IT literacy - this does not need to be extensive but enough to be able to navigate online training and emails. 

  • Good command of the English language both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to respect and maintain confidentiality

  • Lived experience of drug and/or alcohol journey(s) is not essential, but we welcome applications from those who have lived experience and are in stable recovery.

Please note that we require you to be a minimum of 18 years of age to be considered for this volunteering role

This role is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check at a Standard Level
