About the role

As a Veteran Community Engagement Volunteer, you will be working alongside Shropshire Veteran Leads to engage veteran and armed forces clients to access services available in the community. To apply for the role, being a veteran or someone with personal experience as a spouse or child of a loved one within armed services is desirable but not essential.

Location and Time Commitment

• Role is available in our Shrewsbury, Ludlow and Oswestry services
• 2 half days per week (c10 hours), Monday to Friday

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

• Attending outreach events on a weekly basis, representing the service and working alongside community organisations such as Shropshire Armed Forces Covenant, Voluntary Community Sector and Military bases.
• Maintaining contact with veteran clients and if applicable, supporting them with access to community and regimental resources. 
• Supporting veterans with practicalities that they may be entitled to such as badges, medals and by extension, housing and financial assistance. 
• The role will require manual handling skills; this can mean taking equipment from a vehicle to a location, also flyer distribution and marketing materials.

Please note that we require you to be a minimum of 18 years of age to be considered for this volunteering role

Access to a vehicle is desirable but not essential; all community activities are within 30 minutes of transport links (such as train/bus). 

This role is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check at an Enhanced Level
