Campground Host

We are seeking campground host(s) to serve as "live-in" ambassador at Missouri state park campgrounds. Hosts perform a variety of tasks and duties while living in their own RV parked on the 50 amp full hook-up host campsite that is provided in exchange for their service.

Hosts generally serve 32 hours a week and must be physically capable of completing duties and willing to work varied hours and days during your volunteer commitment.  The position is at the Mississippi River Campground.

The host duties include using a tablet to navigate the reservation system to register and check-in campers and to sell firewood.  The hosts will also educate campers about the park including rules and regulations.  If willing and able - mowing, weed eating and checking the shower house for needs would be appreciated but not required.

A minimum one-month stay is requested.  Opportunities to host include the months of August, September and October 2024.

About Trail of Tears State Park

Gain a better understanding of one of the saddest chapters in American history at Trail of Tears State Park, where nine of the 13 Cherokee Indian groups being relocated to Oklahoma crossed the Mississippi River during harsh winter conditions in 1838 and 1839. The park’s visitor center tells the tale of the thousands who died on the forced march, as well as the park’s many natural features. The park also has a cheerier side: shaded picnic sites, hiking and horse trails, opportunities to fish in both the Mississippi River and Lake Boutin, and majestic views of the Mississippi River and beyond. Its location right on the river makes the park one of the best places in Missouri for viewing migratory waterfowl.
