Garstang Community Recycling and Re-use Centre - Volunteer Re-use Service Assistant

Overview

Volunteer re-use service assistants will support the running of a shop selling and giving new life to unwanted household goods, furniture, bicycles and electricals. The shop is run by a local charity in collaboration with Lancashire County Council. It aims to stop useful items from going to waste and benefit the local community.

 

Tasks

Contribute to providing an efficient, friendly and courteous service to customers by:

  • Checking and accepting stock donated
  • Assisting with sales and contributing to a welcoming and productive shop environment
  • Assist with preparation of items for sale and develop creative solutions to re-use and reinvent stock donated
  • Promote the shop and all the benefits of the re-use shop in the local community to increase footfall
  • Comply with the centre Health and Safety requirements and trading standards regulations
  • Using creative and practical skills to maximise sales of stock through displays, repairs and upcycling.

 

Qualities

  • To possess well developed customer care and service skills
  • To have a positive, enthusiastic and helpful manner
  • Interest in collectables and vintage an advantage
  • To be relatively fit and active
  • To be prepared to carry out duties in all weathers
  • Experience of using social media an advantage but not essential
  • Practical and Creative skills are welcomed but not essential
  • Volunteers must be over the age of 18
