How you will contribute as part of the TRCA Volunteer team:
The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) is seeking volunteers to assist with updating our land use data layer for the Rouge watershed area.
What you will do as a volunteer:
- Utilize satellite image classification and various data layers (including roads and official plans) to identify changes in land use.
- Assist in the digitization of new land use layers for 2023, as well as historical layers for 2012 and 2002.
- Collaborate with GIS specialists to refine and validate data.
- Engage with planning documents and city development applications to ascertain significant changes.
- Participate in discussions with planners and utilize GIS tools to map and analyze data changes.
What will you need to succeed:
- Interest or experience in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), satellite image classification, and data analysis.
- Ability to work with different GIS software and tools.
- Proactive in learning and utilizing new datasets and methods.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
