Docents - Docent Training

Docents lead our environmental education programs for the more than 8,000 school-age children that visit our location on school field trips each year. Click here to view the Docent Training Schedule. Placer Nature Center's Docent Training Class is filled with enriching lessons on natural and cultural history. Becoming a docent is easy and fun and is a great way to learn about our foothill environment while sharing it with our children and community. By taking Placer Nature Center's Docent Training, you will learn the environmental and cultural science programs we share with school children who visit our site on school field trips. You will build the skills you need to teach these programs to the children yourself! You'll also become part of a wonderful community of friends who volunteer for Placer Nature Center. Community volunteers who have completed our docent training lead school children (in grades pre-school through grade 12) through thematic environmental education programs. The inter-generational sharing between our docents and our student visitors provides important social contact for many talented citizens and our young visitors. As they teach, Placer Nature Center volunteers link people to their environment and cultivate the child-like delight of discovery within all of us. Scouts, students completing their Senior Project or community service requirements, and service clubs also contribute many valued improvements to Placer Nature Center, while enjoying the satisfaction that comes from contributing to one's community. Docent training classes are offered twice yearly, in the winter and fall. Contact Linda for more information linda@placernaturecenter.org or call 530-878-6053 Once training is completed you can volunteer to docent during the school year, Sept. to June (and for future school years). Your docent hours are on the days you sign up for which coincide with our school field trips. Field trips are Mon through Fri from 9am to noon. (no field trips on Holidays).
