Southern Maryland Food Bank

For more than 30 years, the Southern Maryland Food Bank and Outreach Services have been helping to fight hunger in our community. Our primary mission has been to supply emergency food to nearly 30 food pantries operating in Charles, St. Mary's and Calvert counties.

In response to the growing hunger needs of the community, the Southern Maryland Food Bank also manages several programs that include a local food pantry, a community garden, and the delivery of healthy groceries to at-risk children and senior citizens.

Volunteer Opportunity: We are seeking 2-3 dedicated volunteers to help stock shelves at our food bank facility. This hands-on opportunity allows you to make a direct impact in the fight against hunger in Southern Maryland.

When? Every Friday
Time? 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
Location? Southern Maryland Food Bank | 22 Irongate Dr, Waldorf, MD 20602

Qualifications:

• Helpful, cooperative, and a calm demeanor
• Able to follow directions and maintain a safe environment
• Must be able to lift and carry at least 25 lbs
• Volunteers aged 16 or 17 can participate if accompanied by an adult and they bring a Parent Guardian Waiver form
• Volunteers over the age of 18 can participate without a parent or chaperone present

What You'll Do:

• Unload food donations and supplies
• Organize and stock shelves in the food pantry
• Sort and arrange items by category and expiration date
• Ensure the pantry is clean, organized, and ready to serve clients
