Spanish Translator and Job Search Assistant Volunteer

 

The Refugee Services Center’s overarching goal is to prepare recently‐arrived refugees and asylees for the American workforce. Stable employment is essential to economic self‐sufficiency and an important factor in successful integration, so their services emphasize job development, job coaching, and case management.

 

The Spanish Translator and Job Search Assistant Volunteer will assist the Refugee Services Center by being an English to Spanish translator for clients attending employment sessions. As a Spanish Translator volunteer, you may also assist clients in developing resumes and cover letters and searching for jobs online.

 

The Spanish Translator and Job Search Assistant Volunteer will be responsible for:

  • Translating from English to Spanish for clients attending employment sessions
  • Assisting with resume and cover letter development and online job searches
  • Conduct in-person mock interviews at the volunteer’s place of employment
  • Sign up for blocks of time to be available by phone to conduct mock interviews with consumers preparing for job interviews

  • Experience working with foreign born individuals and groups
  • Compassion and patience
  • Ability to be encouraging and supportive
  • Computer skills
  • Ability to follow directions

 

Qualifications:

  • Volunteer must be bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • French or Amharic language abilities are a plus

Support:

  • The volunteer will participate in Catholic Charities Volunteer Orientation
  • The volunteer will receive on-site training at the Refugee Services Center
  • Volunteers will have on-site supervision

 

Time Commitment:

  • The volunteer is needed on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
  • Volunteers will serve for 6-month period

 

Location: Refugee Services Center, 1018 Monroe Street NE, Washington, DC

  • There is limited street parking in front of the facility
  • Also accessible via the DC Metro Brookland-CUA station and Metro Bus
