Refugee Services Center Mentor

 

Catholic Charities Refugee Services Center serves asylees, refugees, green card holders, immigrants, and survivors of human trafficking. Our programs help introduce clients to American culture and build financial stability through employment and case management including employment orientation, resume and cover letter writing, and employer networking.

 

Refugee Services Center Mentor Volunteer will be responsible for:

  • Establish a trusting relationship with mentee
  • Engage mentee in activities that will help them feel more competent and confident in their interactions
  • Help mentee build skills and feel more comfortable in the United States for an easier cultural transition

Qualifications:

  • Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age
  • Volunteers must have at least an intermediate English level, and it is beneficial to know a second language

Support:

    • Volunteers will participate in Catholic Charities Volunteer Orientation
    • Volunteers will have on-site supervision

 

Time Commitment:

  • Volunteers will serve for 2 hours every other week at least; four hours a month minimum total
  • Volunteers will serve for 6 months
  • Exact hours are subject to the volunteer and mentee’s schedule

 

Location: 1018 Monroe Street, NE DC (door on lower level, basement of building)

  • There is limited street parking in front of the facility
  • Also accessible by the DC Metro Rail Brookland/Catholic University Metro Station
