Immigrant Family Support Volunteer

 

Immigration Legal Services (ILS) focuses on the provision of direct legal immigration services to foreign‐born individuals and their families. ILS has represented individuals from more than 135 countries around the world needing legal assistance with an immigration matter.

 

Immigrant Family Support Volunteers are needed to assist our Immigration Legal Services Program in completing and processing Waiver of Deportation Applications more efficiently. This support will result in reduced processing times for applicants. Volunteers will work in teams of two.

 

Immigrant Family Support Volunteers will be responsible for:

  • Assisting individuals and families who are clients of ILS to assemble information and materials for Waiver of Deportation applications
  • Communicating with ILS staff on work status
  • Following a standard process for completing work

 

Desired Skills, Experience & Characteristics:

  • Warm, friendly, and compassionate
  • Strong team member
  • Detail oriented
  • Linguistically skilled

 

Qualifications:

  • One team member must be fluently bilingual (Spanish/English)
  • One team member must be a very strong writer and have computer proficiency
  • Volunteers must be 18 years or older

Support:

  • Volunteers will work in teams of two. We will match you with another volunteer or you can tell a friend to apply, too.
  • Volunteers will participate in Catholic Charities Volunteer Orientation
  • Volunteers will have on-site supervision

 

Time Commitment:

  • Volunteers will serve 4 hours per week during the work week (Monday-Friday)
  • Volunteers will serve during business hours (9:00 AM-5:00 PM)
  • Volunteers must serve for a 6-month period

 

Location: Catholic Charities Immigrant Support Services, 201 E. Diamond Ave., 3rd Floor, Gaithersburg, MD 20087

  • Free parking is available in front of the facility
  • Also accessible via the MARC train
