HR Special Projects Volunteer

 

Description

 

The HR Special Projects Volunteer will assist the HR staff with short-term, focused special projects to enhance operations and expand our reach in the community. Examples of projects include:

  • Representing Catholic Charities at employment recruitment events in the community
  • Conducting research to identify improvements the HR team can make to its operations.
  • Updating/storing/destroying records to comply with agency practices.
  • Updating instructions and practices
  • Developing and testing a HR system-related training for staff
  • Posting announcements related to HR, employee accomplishments and appreciation, etc. on the agency’s internal communications channels (e.g., Yammer, SharePoint, CHRIS landing page, etc.)

 

Impact of the volunteer: 

 

The service of the HR volunteer will temporarily expand the capacity of the HR team to accomplish a pressing project.

 

Catholic Charities Human Resources Department: 

 

The Human Resources Department maintains a qualified and dedicated staff complement to accomplish the Catholic Charities mission to deliver help and hope to people in need. The customers of the department are the employees of the agency.

 

Duties & Responsibilities: 

 

  • Responsibilities will be related to the project assigned to the volunteer.
  • The Volunteer and HR staff liaison will agree on the duties and responsibilities and timeline to complete the project.
  • Log hours served once a week in the volunteer system.

 

Qualifications: 

 

The HR Special Projects Volunteer will

  • Pass the CC DC screening required of volunteers in sensitive positions (registration, COVID-19 vaccination, proof of ID, background check, reference check, and volunteer orientation)
  • Be competent to use the 0365 suite of applications (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Forms, etc.) and related authentication systems.
  • Be available to work on site at the HR Office as agreed with the staff liaison.
  • Be capable of working independently and with a team, writing clear and concise reports, presenting information to a group.

 

Desired Skills, Experience & Characteristics: 

 

  • Previous experience in the HR field is helpful.
  • Basic to Intermediate Spanish is helpful.
  • Be detail and process oriented.
  • Be discrete, agree to the confidentiality statement.
  • Contribute to the camaraderie of the HR Team

Support: 

 

The HR Special Projects Volunteer will

  • Serve under the supervision of the Director of HR Shared Services
  • Have access to online and in-person training offered to CC DC staff via the LMS.

 

Time Commitment: 

  • 4-hour shifts; once a week
  • Weekdays during regular office hours
  • On-site at HR Office, potential for doing work from home after completing at least 2 shifts on-site. 

Location: 

 

  • This is a hybrid service opportunity.
  • HR Offices are at 924 G St NW Washington DC 20001
  • On street and garage parking are available
  • The office is located between the Gallery Place Metro Station (Red, Yellow, Green lines) and Metro Center Station (Blue, Orange, Silver lines)
  • The office is ADA compliant.
